Here are some major differences between Oils and indoor tanning Lotions, why you really need both products, and the best uses for both.

· Oils– Have 2 main advantages in the world of sun tanning.  They are waterproof as well as moisturizing to the skin.  They prevent the loss of moisture through the skin, and most consist of a largely mineral oil base with added moisturizing oils.  Some of the nicer, more exotic oils contain oils from the Avocado, Jojoba, Coconut, along with many others.  These products typically are very good for your skin care, and are great for tanning use.

· Lotions– Are a sunscreen or sun block applied to reduce skin damage.  Indoor tanning lotions work by blocking UV radiation from the sun reaching the skin.  The best products block both UV-A and UV-B rays, both of which cause burns.  Most of these products contain either an organic chemical compound (usually  Oxybenzone) which absorbs UV light.  Or an opaque material that reflects light (like Zinc Oxide).  Many contain both.

· If you are tanning, you should use Oil on the body, but lotion on the face and your softer, thinner areas of skin.  Oil on these places can cause unappealing darkening of the softer skin and premature aging of the skin, where as Lotion will protect it.

A  Fact: Coconut water can be used (in emergencies) as a substitute for blood plasma.  The reason for this is that coconut water (the water found in coconuts – not to be confused with coconut milk, which comes from the flesh of the coconut) is sterile and has an ideal pH level.  Who the heck knew that?
